State Taxes Department Targets Dimapur Businesses for GST Compliance

Kohima: Tax officials hit Dimapur businesses on July 13 and 14 to verify GST compliance. This follows a similar enforcement sweep in Kohima. A team led by the Deputy Commissioner of State Taxes ran the operation under Section 67 of the Nagaland Goods and Services Tax Act of 2017.

The department checked registration details, stock levels, and invoice records. While most traders played by the rules, inspectors found several discrepancies. Officials will now review these cases under the NGST Act. Similar enforcement efforts took place on June 17 and 18.

The agency wants better transparency. Staff met with owners to answer questions and push for voluntary reporting. The state aims to stop tax evasion through these visits. The department stated that most registered taxpayers were “complying” with Goods and Services Tax provisions.

Officials urged businesses to keep accurate books. They also told shoppers to demand receipts for every buy. The State Taxes Department plans to keep running these inspections across Nagaland to maintain a fair system.
