Kohima: The Inner Line Regulation Commission of the Naga Students Federation plans a two-day national seminar on the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873. It happens at the Town Hall in Dimapur on August 28 and 29, 2026. This gathering serves as a national policy consultation. Organizers want to boost awareness of the regulation and build solid recommendations for the Government of Nagaland.
Supreme Court senior advocates Prashant Bhushan and Shomona Khanna lead the expert panel. They join academics from North Eastern universities and the Nagaland Home Commissioner. Guest speakers are already traveling in from New Delhi and across mainland India. Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio will address the crowd on August 29.
Roughly 350 delegates will attend. The group includes state legislators, tribal hohos, civil society leaders, and legal experts from across the North Eastern Region. The Federation expects these diverse voices to dissect the historical, legal, and administrative roots of the 1873 regulation. The group stated, "The seminar will provide a platform for informed discussion among policymakers, legal experts, scholars and community institutions, facilitating examination of the historical, legal, administrative and contemporary dimensions of the BEFR, 1873."
The NSF opened the doors to all participants. They hope for a productive session that secures the future of the regulation.
