Guwahati: The Dimasa Students Union Central Committee lashed out at Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on November 2, 2026. They took issue with his reported claims that the Kachari people are migrants in Dimapur. The Union slammed the comments as historically inaccurate and factually untenable.
The group insists the Kacharis hold ancestral ties to the land. Dimapur once served as the capital of the Dimasa Kachari Kingdom. Archaeological ruins across the area prove this long-standing connection. The Union believes these facts stand on their own.
The statement emphasized the need for respect. "Peaceful coexistence must never come at the expense of recognising the indigenous identity and historical legacy of the Kachari people," the group wrote. They claim the Chief Minister's words deeply hurt the local community.
The Union wants a formal clarification from Rio. They expect him to show more sensitivity toward indigenous groups moving forward. The organization plans to protect its dignity and history. They will pursue these goals through peaceful and democratic means.
