Guwahati: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi is pushing the Rajasthan government to launch a full investigation into the alleged assault of an Assamese woman. He identified the victim as Rashmi Shikha Sharma. She was reportedly beaten and targeted with racial slurs linked to her Northeastern identity.

Gogoi took to X to condemn the attack. He argued that people from the Northeast remain frequent targets of harassment due to their food habits and facial features. "The incident is deeply unfortunate and condemnable," he stated.

The legislator wants the BJP-led state administration to hold the attackers accountable. This event highlights growing alarm over violence against Northeastern citizens in regions like Uttarakhand and Delhi. Authorities in Rajasthan have yet to provide a formal response to the demands.
