Fire Guts Three Shops and Home in Kumbi Bazar

Imphal: An electrical short circuit likely sparked a massive blaze at Kumbi Bazar yesterday evening. The fire ignited around 6.15 pm near Thongkhong Khuga under the Kumbi Police Station jurisdiction. It tore through three shops and a residential home. The flames spread fast. Extensive property damage followed.

Locals, KIYDO Kumbi members, and volunteers from the Indian Red Cross Society, Bishnupur District Branch, scrambled to help. Kumbi Police Officer-in-Charge L. Basanta led the response. Troops from the Border Security Force and the Army arrived to assist. Fire crews from Bishnupur and Moirang arrived to battle the inferno. Teams finally brought the fire under control at 7.50 pm.

The fire destroyed homes and businesses owned by Nongmaithem (O) Ibemhal, Wahengbam Dhomba, and Heikham Sarju. "The fire was brought under control at around 7.50 pm through coordinated efforts, preventing it from spreading further and causing additional damage."

Community groups and social activists stepped in after the smoke cleared. KIYDO Kumbi, Officer-in-Charge L. Basanta, the Red Cross, and Jaya Khangembam delivered aid. Families received blankets, bedsheets, and cash to cover their immediate losses.
