Guwahati: A massive fire ripped through the Purupbari Centre in Gohpur overnight. The blaze tore through seven different business establishments situated along the National Highway. A pharmacy, a furniture store, a computer repair shop, an electronic shop, and a bookshop burned to the ground. Several other shops in the vicinity also suffered total destruction.

Five fire tenders from Gohpur, Behali, and Biswanath raced to the scene. Crews fought the flames for several hours before finally securing the site. Officials estimate the fire caused 50 lakh rupees in damages. The ruins are still smoldering.

Locals point to an electrical short circuit as the likely culprit. Authorities have not confirmed the official cause yet. Investigators plan to comb through the wreckage to determine exactly how the fire started and to calculate the final financial toll. One official noted, "An investigation is expected to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage."
