Kohima: A fire ripped through Eshou village near the Police Check Post Junction in Tuensang on September 21. It started around 3:00 am. The inferno reduced four houses and two hotels to ash. Fire personnel received a distress call at 4:00 am and rushed to the scene to fight the flames.
Investigators suspect a short circuit inside one of the hotels sparked the disaster. The full extent of the destruction remains under investigation as officials piece together the aftermath. A spokesperson for the Fire and Emergency Services said, "The exact cause of the fire and the final extent of the losses are yet to be ascertained."
Financial damages are stacking up fast. Initial estimates place property destruction at Rs 25 lakh. Further losses include Rs 8 lakh worth of goods from a godown, Rs 9 lakh in cash, and two additional losses of Rs 6 lakh and Rs 8 lakh respectively.
