Fire Guts Noklak Home as Water Shortage Stalls Response

Kohima: A fire ripped through a house in Danlepdong Colony, Noklak, on the evening of October 17. The blaze started between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm. It completely destroyed a kitchen and five rooms. Firefighters suspect an electrical short circuit sparked the flames.

Nine family members lived in the home, including grandparents, parents, and four children. The children include one college student and two pupils in Classes V and II. Everything inside turned to ash. The family lost important documents and school textbooks in the chaos. They estimate the property damage at Rs 40 lakh.

The family was at a neighbor's house when the fire started. Neighbors ran to help before Fire and Emergency Services arrived. Assam Rifles personnel later joined the scene. Firefighters reported, "water shortage was a major challenge in containing the blaze."

Danlepdong Colony serves 400 households but relies on only one water tank. This lack of supply hampered rescue efforts. The District Disaster Management Authority provided emergency relief to the victims. The family is now staying in a nearby house that is still under construction.
