Military and Civil Leaders Meet in Kohima for Security Coordination

Kohima: Top civil administration, police, and military leaders converged in Kohima on October 8 for the two-day Military-Civil Fusion 2.0 seminar. The event kicked off at the Sainik Institute of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles North. It operates under the theme: From Dialogue to Delivery: Institutionalising Civil-Military Partnerships for a Future-Ready Nagaland.

Major General H S Mavi, Inspector General of Assam Rifles North, opened the session. He demanded better synergy between security and civil stakeholders. Mavi argued that Nagaland currently enjoys a stable environment. He insists that security and economic development must move in lockstep.

Gregory Thejawelie represented the Home Department. He defined the state civil administration as the primary body for local governance and public welfare. He noted that State Police handle law enforcement and criminal investigations. Central forces and Assam Rifles manage border security and provide support during critical incidents.

Thejawelie said: "Each of these forces brings unique strengths, skills and resources. When all agencies move together with a shared understanding, the entire State becomes safer and more resilient."

The Home Department acts as a bridge between military and civil priorities. It aims to align security actions with local laws and civil rights. Thejawelie warned that miscommunication remains the primary barrier to effective multi-agency work.

Experts addressed various operational challenges during the event. Poolicharla Ramanaiah, SP of Narcotics and Cyber Crime, discussed drug trafficking coordination. Sandeep M. Tamgadge, ADGP of Law and Order, spoke on boosting synergy. Retired Lieutenant General A.S. Bedi addressed security in a post-ceasefire environment. Dr. Pritpal Kaur, Deputy IGP, focused on intelligence sharing and border security. Infrastructure needs were covered by Er. Lanu Jamir, while Dr. Thomas Keppen outlined requirements for healthcare access and joint medical responses in remote areas.
