Assam Rifles Expand Community Outreach and Security Efforts in Nagaland

Kohima: Assam Rifles launched a wave of community outreach programs across Nagaland throughout August. The troop initiatives spanned healthcare, security, and environmental education. Troops acted under the motto: "Friends of the North East People."

A medical camp in Sangphur Village on August 21 focused on oral health. Military dental officers performed check-ups and extractions while handing out care kits. Later, in Lilen Village, 88 people received general health screenings and medicine. The Pfutsero post held a similar camp in Tsupfume, treating 62 villagers for basic health needs and teaching first aid.

Collaborating with the Primary Health Centre, personnel organized a medicine distribution drive in Langnyok on August 18. Medical staff provided consultations to residents needing urgent care. In Chakhabama, soldiers met with 45 local leaders to talk about monsoon safety and regional security. The meeting included Gaon Burahs and various village chairmen.

Environmental work also took priority. On August 18, 78 students and five staff members joined 24 soldiers at John Yasong Memorial School in Phelungre for a massive plantation drive. This event pushed youth to take responsibility for nature.

By August 23, the focus shifted to the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign. Working with Akehda Amulung in Kiphire, soldiers helped 180 students at Agape Higher Secondary School learn about the dangers of drug abuse. The team facilitated eight separate competitions and presented audio-visual displays to explain the impacts of substance use. Organizers handed out certificates to solidify the message of a drug-free society.
