Short-Circuit Sparks Deadly Blaze in Rajabala

Shillong: A morning fire killed two people and left two others critically injured in Rajabala, West Garo Hills. The blaze broke out around 10 am in a combined house and shop unit. Investigators suspect an electrical short circuit triggered the disaster.

Rajnikant Bhowmik and his wife died from severe burn injuries after they failed to escape the flames in time. The fire also decimated two additional shops on the property. Their daughter and grandson suffered serious burns during the incident.

Emergency responders rushed the survivors to Hatsingimari Civil Hospital. Medical staff later referred them to Tura Civil Hospital for specialized care. The victims remained in critical condition late Tuesday. Local police were notified of the blaze immediately after it started.
