Shillong: West Garo Hills district administration is tightening security for Durga Puja. Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal met with police, the Central Puja Committee, and local organizers on Friday to finalize safety rules for 33 pandals across Tura, Goeragre, and Rongram.
Organizers must inspect electrical connections to stop fires. Idols should remain a manageable size for transport. Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma warned committees that they must kill loud music by 10 pm. "Festive activities that do not involve loud sound systems may continue within the legally permitted hours."
The immersion procession kicks off at 1 pm. Organizers must check in by 12.30 pm. Only volunteers in specific colored clothing get access to the immersion ghat to stop overcrowding. Authorities banned all DJ systems and fireworks during the procession to prevent accidents. Vehicles transporting idols must be in good mechanical shape.
Police will enforce silent zones near the District Maternity and Child Hospital. Officials will manage traffic and crowds throughout the event to keep the streets clear.
