Imphal: Suspected militants gunned down two civilians today at Kalenjang village. The attack took place under the jurisdiction of the Senapati Police Station at roughly 2:30 pm. Gunfire erupted shortly after Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh departed a function at Maram College. The victims hailed from Mao Chowainu village and Poumai Laii Shirafii.
Police arrived at the scene quickly. They began their investigation at 2:45 pm. Authorities are still working to identify the victims and piece together exactly why the shooting happened. Officials have not confirmed the official identities of those killed. The involvement of the Kuki Revolutionary Army remains a working theory.
Police stated, "The allegation of involvement of KRA cadres also remains subject to police investigation." Officers are currently processing the scene to finalize their report.
