West Garo Hills Hosts 10-km Run for National Sports Day

Shillong: Athletes from across West Garo Hills gathered in Tura this Saturday to mark National Sports Day. The District Sports Office hosted a 10-km open run at the Matchakolgre L.P. School Field. Runners started the race at 6 am.

Meckmillan B Marak from Jengjal crushed the men’s field with a time of 31 minutes and 15 seconds. Sengwat S Sangma followed in 31:49, and Nirest R Marak took third at 32:40. Sengnabrith R Marak, John Omega Sangma, Khrisdalin Basalamoit, Chekam Marak, and Rikrak Ch Sangma rounded out the top eight finishers.

Rakshli Ch Marak of Williamnagar led the women with a time of 42:42. Martha D Sangma grabbed second place at 43:18, while Carnidiliana Ch Momin finished third in 44:15. Palbina A Sangma, Dislimet T Sangma, Nimra G Momin, Danchi A Sangma, and Nopanchi A Sangma also secured top spots.

Rupam R. Marak, Superintendent of Police for Tura Traffic, handed out prizes to the winners. The event aimed to promote fitness and public participation in sports. Organizers stated the race served as an "inclusive community sporting activity" to honor the national day.
