Agartala: Agartala police seized a group of TET-qualified job seekers near Town Hall on Saturday. Officers intercepted the protesters before they could start a planned march to the Chief Minister's residence. The group aimed to pressure the state for recruitment and employment. Officers hauled the candidates into a nearby police station, ending the demonstration before it started.
These candidates cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test and meet all criteria. They claim they have waited years for jobs while receiving nothing but empty government promises. The group maintains their protest was peaceful. They simply wanted to flag the state's teacher shortage and secure a formal hiring timeline. “We only want the recruitment process to be expedited and employment opportunities provided to eligible candidates,” one protester said.
The arrests triggered backlash. The job seekers argue that their peaceful advocacy did not warrant police interference. They insist this issue will stay a flashpoint in Tripura until the government delivers a concrete response. The candidates promised to keep fighting until officials set a fixed hiring schedule.
