Agartala: Tripura kicked off the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan on Thursday, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The campaign launched with a large blood donation camp at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala. Officials expected about 200 donors to attend the event. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha attended the camp alongside Health Secretary Kiran Gitte and other senior health department staff. He spoke directly with donors about the vital nature of the gift of blood.
"There is no substitute for blood. Every healthy citizen should come forward regularly to donate, as it can save lives in times of crisis," Saha said. The state is observing September 17 as Seva Diwas to honor the Prime Minister’s 25 years of public service. Scheduled events include health awareness drives and social outreach programs across all districts and panchayats. Residents also lit lamps and received Ashirbad Cards as part of the celebration.
Saha used the platform to address mounting pressure from Teachers’ Eligibility Test candidates demanding jobs. He urged the protesters to halt their agitations immediately. The Chief Minister claimed his administration created 22,000 jobs since taking office, with teachers representing the bulk of these hires. He insisted that the government tracks these recruitment issues closely. "I have already instructed my department regarding TET. They should stay away from such agitations; there is no need for them. Our government has been keeping a close watch, and they will get what is due to them," he stated.
The government faces tough budget trade-offs. It must balance new hiring against existing obligations like Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief for current staff and pensioners. Saha noted the state relies heavily on Central funding. Despite tight finances, officials continue to use outsourcing and contract roles to fill gaps. Depending on the Model Code of Conduct, the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan will roll out further events until October 17.
