Kolkata Man Arrested at Guwahati Station with 3.64kg of Cannabis

Guwahati: Railway Protection Force officers caught 31-year-old Abhimanyu Basu at Guwahati Railway Station on Sunday. The man from Kolkata was holding a dark green Aristocrat trolley bag near Platform 1. Inside, agents found four cello-taped packets stuffed with 3.64 kg of suspected cannabis. Officials value the haul at roughly Rs 40,000.

Basu told investigators he picked up the drugs in Shillong, Meghalaya. He intended to haul the stash to New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, to make money. He claims his girlfriend provided the supply, though he remains clueless about the buyer. "He did not know the identity of the person who was supposed to receive the consignment," RPF officials said.

The Crime Prevention and Detection Squad performed the bust as part of a push against drug trafficking. Officers turned Basu and the evidence over to the Government Railway Police. GRP Guwahati registered Case No. 201/26 under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Investigation continues.
