Imphal: The Civil Society Organizations Working Committee of Kamjong called off its economic blockade at 12 noon on Sunday. This move followed a series of direct talks with district officials. The committee initiated the protest on September 16, 2026, after the Manipur government ignored a 36-hour ultimatum regarding grievances from the local Kuki community.
The standoff lasted three days before the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police met with protest leaders. Officials acknowledged the community's plight during these negotiations. They promised to organize the delivery and receipt of essential food supplies to the region. The officials stated the proposed arrangement represented the maximum assistance that the district administration could provide under the prevailing circumstances and appealed to the committee to withdraw the blockade.
The Kuki CSO Working Committee accepted these terms and suspended the agitation. Leaders issued a stern warning, however. They stated that the blockade could return in a more stringent form if authorities fail to follow through on their commitments. Future actions hinge on whether the district administration honors its word.
