Imphal: Villagers in Manipur’s Kamjong district cut off the Shirui-Kachaophung road on Tuesday. They acted to stop an Assam Rifles convoy heading toward the Indo-Myanmar border. Tensions spiked after 47 personnel arrived at the Mapum village outpost from Somsai on Monday. The soldiers were spotted moving out, and the locals did not trust them.

The standoff intensified as residents questioned the troops. Sources noted, "The personnel gave varying accounts of their intended destination." Suspicion grew because the convoy kept changing its story about where it was actually headed. Locals feared the move during a time of state-wide insecurity.

This blockade chokes a vital supply line. The road was built under the PMGSY program and supports Zingsui, Chattric, Ronshak, Sahamphung, Roni, Motoya, Chamu, H. Kaphung, Khayang, Phungtha, Kachaophung, and Langkhe. The route stayed closed through Tuesday evening. Movement remains stuck.
