Tangkhul Naga Long Sets Up Emergency Helpline Amid Ukhrul Security Friction

Imphal: The Tangkhul Naga Long Working Committee, or TNL-WC, launched a round-the-clock emergency helpline for travelers navigating the Ukhrul and Kamjong route. Ongoing regional conflict and heavy monsoon rains have turned the roads dangerous. Travelers can now call 9612744804 or 9862144506 for help with vehicle breakdowns, medical crises, accidents, or needs for food and shelter.

Volunteers stand ready. They will assist anyone in distress across the hill districts.

This initiative follows rising tensions between the TNL-WC and the Assam Rifles. The organization slammed the security forces for what it calls unnecessary and aggressive frisking of civilians. According to the committee, these movements have triggered widespread anxiety among women and children in areas that remained peaceful.

The group documented a string of incidents over the last week. Personnel from the 11 Assam Rifles halted traffic at the Maku village junction on August 6. Days earlier, troops from the 40 Assam Rifles occupied Changa Junction, Nungshong Junction, and Finch Corner. The committee also cited a separate frisking operation near Ningchou village in the Kamjong Sub-Division on August 3.

The TNL-WC argues these maneuvers disrupt normal life without addressing the root of the conflict. In a public statement, the committee declared that "lasting peace in Manipur's hill districts requires addressing the root causes of the conflict through responsible governance, dialogue and lawful measures, rather than creating additional hardships for innocent civilians." The group is now demanding that civil and security authorities review these operations immediately.
