Imphal: Security forces detained three people following the July 6 ambush that killed two Assam Rifles personnel in Manipur. The operation targeted the TM Kasom, Litan, and Sikibung areas to track down those responsible for the attack. Joint efforts by the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, and the Border Security Force remain active.

The ambush occurred near Nungshangkong village as a convoy returned to the 40th Assam Rifles Battalion headquarters. Militants detonated multiple improvised explosive devices near a bridge before opening fire. Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havildar Chandra Mohan Singh died at the scene. It was a brutal assault. The NSCN-IM denied involvement and condemned the violence, citing their existing ceasefire with the central government.

Police claim daily life in the region remains stable. Shops are open. Traffic continues to flow along National Highway-202. The police statement confirmed the scope of the mission: "An intelligence-based operation has been launched by security forces in the areas of TM Kasom, Litan and Sikibung to arrest the perpetrators of the ambush on security forces in Ukhrul district on July 6. Three persons have been detained."

Tensions are rising elsewhere. The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long alleges security forces grabbed four other civilians during the search. The group named the individuals as Wungphayo Kasar, AS Ninglum, Yaoreingam Lungleng, and Vareiyo Lungleng, all from Sharkaphung village. They demanded their immediate release. The organization threatened mass protests if the four men are not released within 24 hours.
