Imphal: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet greenlit the transfer of Rajeev Singh Thakur to the Manipur cadre. Thakur, a 1995-batch IAS officer currently serving in the Rajasthan cadre, will move immediately. His central deputation ends now. The state government expects to name him Chief Secretary shortly.

The Department of Personnel and Training pushed the proposal forward. Officials granted a relaxation of existing deputation policy to allow the move. Thakur will remain in the post until he retires on June 30, 2029. This leadership shift comes as the state struggles to recover from a lengthy ethnic conflict. Government officials noted the appointment comes at a time when the state continues "efforts towards restoring peace and normalcy" following the violence.
