Sampath Kumar to Succeed Meghalaya Chief Secretary Shakil Ahammed

Shillong: Chief Secretary Shakil P. Ahammed will exit government service on November 30, 2026. He hits his age of superannuation then. Commissioner and Secretary C.V.D. Diengdoh signed the formal notification on September 24 for the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department.

Ahammed took the helm on September 30, 2025. He followed D.P. Wahlang into the role and serves as the State Vigilance Commissioner. The transition is now set. Senior IAS officer Sampath Kumar will take the seat.

Kumar joined the 1997 batch of the same cadre. The government promoted him to the rank of Additional Chief Secretary this past March. Officials have not yet released the final paperwork for his new appointment. Government insiders stated, "The government is yet to issue a formal notification on the next Chief Secretary."
