Imphal: Security forces neutralized a suspected improvised explosive device Friday in the forests near Sikibung village. The bomb was found three kilometres south of the Litan Police Station. Local villagers hunting for beehives spotted the suspicious object and alerted authorities at 12:30 pm. They averted a major tragedy.
A joint team rushed to the scene. The unit included officers from Litan Police Station and the 164 D Company of the Border Security Force. A specialized bomb disposal expert joined the mission to manage the threat. Personnel immediately cordoned off the woods to protect the public. They notified the village headman, the village chairman, and nearby security outposts.
The bomb squad carried out an in-situ operation at 4 pm to neutralize the threat. Police said, "The suspected IED was successfully defused in situ at around 4 pm by the BSF bomb disposal team, averting any danger to the lives of villagers and others who frequent the area."
A sweep of the site turned up no secondary devices or evidence. Investigators filed GD Entry No. 09/LTN-PS/2026 on August 7, 2026. Officials are still working to track down who planted the device and why it was placed there.
