East Khasi Hills Police Reshuffled After Extortion Scandal

Shillong: The East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police shook up the department on Saturday. Fifteen officers face immediate transfer after allegations of illegal cash collections from trucks on the Shillong bypass surfaced. The Khasi Students Union exposed the shakedown. The order arrived October 1 based on District Level Committee recommendations.

Inspector Herwood Thabah took command at Laitumkhrah Police Station. Former boss WP Inspector Lily Nongkhlaw moved to head the Sadar Police Station. Inspector Dawanoo Lakiang left the Lumdiengjri Traffic Branch for Laban Traffic Branch. Inspector Tenny G. Momin grabbed the open slot at Lumdiengjri.

Sub-inspectors also saw major movement. Binode A Bamon landed at Diengpasoh Police Station while Gabby L Mawlong took charge of the Jhalupara Outpost. Tikaram Chettry swapped the Laban post for the Madanriting Traffic Branch. The department sent UBSI George Dkhar to Mawlai Police Station and UBSI Sylvanus Sylliang to Diengpasoh. Five additional head constables and constables rotated through Diengpasoh and Jhalupara.

The department demands swift action. Officers must report to new posts now. The official order stated the staff move was made "with immediate effect."
