Teenager found dead in Shillong room

Shillong: Sajan Borman died Friday morning. The 18-year-old worked at Delhi Tea Stall in Shillong. His body turned up in a rented room at Thana Road, Khyndai Lad, around 2 am. Police suspect suicide, but the cause remains unclear.

Borman hailed from Bendal/Pyndan Borsora village in Mawsynram, East Khasi Hills. His elder brother told authorities the family knew of no issues that might explain the death. Police from Sadar station secured the scene to start an inquiry.

The East Khasi Hills District Disaster Management Authority called in the State Disaster Response Force for recovery help. A team from the 1st SDRF Battalion, based in Mawdiangdiang, departed at 10.45 am. They arrived at the scene by 11.20 am. Rescuers used ropes to lower the body before turning it over to the police.

The deceased moved to Civil Hospital, Shillong, for a post-mortem examination. Authorities hope the procedure will clarify exactly what happened. As the brother noted, "The circumstances are yet to be established."
