Shillong: East Khasi Hills police suspended four officers and transferred a station head following claims of illegal cash collection from trucks. Videos hit social media showing members of the Khasi Students Union entering temporary police check posts at Mawkhanu and Thangshalai. These posts fall under the jurisdiction of the Diengpasoh and Mawryngkneng police stations.

Police initially set up these highway checkpoints to stop robberies and highway crime. Investigators found no cash at either site during verification, but officials admitted the lack of physical evidence did not clear the officers of wrongdoing. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed the departmental probe. He stated, "The absence of money during the verification did not conclusively establish or disprove the allegations contained in the videos."

One head constable and three branch constables face suspension during the investigation. The officer-in-charge of Diengpasoh Police Station now faces transfer. A special team visited the sites Wednesday and crews tore down both temporary sheds. Officials warned that any proven corruption leads to strict disciplinary action. Authorities told truckers to stop paying bribes and report demands by dialing 112 or calling the Shillong Police Control Room at 6009196479.
