Shillong: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar pushed back on Saturday against a series of posters plastering Shillong. The posters leveled accusations of misconduct at Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem. Dhar insisted that people should handle grievances through official channels rather than public smear campaigns.
"Our SP has already clarified and it is not good to go for all these posters and all. If there is something wrong somewhere, they can go through a proper channel like filing an FIR. It is sad for me to see such type of allegations. We should respect each other," Dhar said.
The posters surfaced after the Khasi Students’ Union claimed on September 30 that police forced truckers to pay bribes at Mawkhanu and Thangshalai. Police responded to these specific claims by opening an internal inquiry and taking disciplinary action against staff. Officials have yet to identify who pasted the signs around the city. It remains unconfirmed if the KSU had any role in the poster campaign.
Dhar expressed frustration over the public displays. He demanded that anyone holding actual evidence come forward to the proper authorities. He called for a return to professional respect. The police investigation into the alleged illegal collections and the mystery behind the posters continue as separate, active matters.
