Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla distributed nutritional food baskets to tuberculosis patients and their caregivers at the MSFDS auditorium in Imphal this Saturday. The effort falls under the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited corporate social responsibility program. NTPC acts as a Nikshay Mitra for the National TB Elimination Programme TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The company allocated 2.9 crore rupees to feed 1,800 patients across all districts for six months.
Bhalla also handed out advanced handheld, AI-enabled X-ray machines to Deputy Commissioners and state health officials. This gear will help detect TB in remote, hard-to-reach locations. The Governor noted that while local TB indicators look good, the true disease burden remains unknown. He told officials to use the new technology aggressively to find hidden cases.
Bhalla pushed for more community groups to become Nikshay Mitras to broaden the support network. He stated, "The goal of a TB-free India" requires coordinated work from government agencies, public sector firms, and local society. Attendees included NTPC Chairman and Managing Director Gurdeep Singh, Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur, and Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Sumant Singh.
