Imphal: Security forces demolished two illegal bunkers in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on July 20. The joint operation targeted Thawai Kuki village and the surrounding area. Troops seized two single-barrel rifles, ten live rounds, a waist belt, and a pistol with a magazine. These groups maintain militant infrastructure throughout the state.
Separately, security personnel captured three members of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup outfit on July 19. They caught the men near Border Pillar Number 50, located under the jurisdiction of the Chakpikarong Police Station in Chandel district. All three men hold the rank of self-styled Lance Corporal.
Authorities identified the detainees as Heikrujam Builder, 36, from Thoubal; Lanchenba Sarma, 24, from Imphal East; and Khoirampam Raison, 34, from Imphal West. Police confirmed that "further investigation is underway" regarding the suspects. These moves follow a pattern of regular area domination exercises meant to stabilize the region.
Ethnic conflict has plagued Manipur since May 2023. Violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities has killed more than 260 people. Thousands remain displaced across the state as authorities work to prevent further escalation.
