Imphal: The Kuki CSO Working Committee in Manipur issued a 36-hour ultimatum to the Kamjong district administration. They demand an immediate end to an alleged economic embargo that has squeezed the Kuki community for over six months. The group warned they will launch an indefinite blockade at Chassad if the Deputy Commissioner fails to provide a concrete solution.
Kuki residents claim their access to food and basic goods remains blocked. Meanwhile, they allege that Tangkhul individuals continue using the Chassad route without interference. The committee stated, "For more than six months, the Kuki people have endured serious difficulties." They claim they have held back to stop ethnic tensions from boiling over between the two communities.
Multiple organizations including the Kuki Students' Organisation, Kuki Women Union, and SEKYO have tried to settle this with local leaders. They received no effective response. "However, our patience has reached its limit. We can no longer bear the continued hardship and suffering faced by our people," the committee declared. The groups want an impartial administration and immediate dialogue to restore order.
The threat carries strict conditions for the proposed blockade. Medical emergencies, ambulances, patients, and essential supplies will get a pass. Army convoys, power department crews, and telecom services will also remain exempt. The committee insists they want a peaceful, fair and lasting solution. They are waiting for the administration to move.
