The incident highlights rising tensions between Naga and Kuki groups.

Four people suffered injuries during the assault. The victims include Thangjahao Haokip, the chief of Chassad village, and two Chassad Village Authority members, St. Khailun Haokip and Seikhohao. The fourth victim, Seipao Haokip, is the chief of Phungtha, also known as Kachouphung-Kuki.
