Imphal: Union Minister of State for Health, Family Welfare and AYUSH Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav visited Imphal on September 20 to promise central backing for local welfare programs. He confirmed the government is open to supporting a proposal to update the National Register of Citizens. The minister spent six hours in the state to review healthcare infrastructure and public schemes.
Jadhav met with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to discuss building an AYUSH Wellness Centre. He urged the state to grow medicinal plants on unused land. He also consulted with Minister for Home and Youth Affairs Govindas Konthoujam about regional welfare efforts. The minister toured the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, checking the new OPD complex, emergency blocks, and surgical wards. He spoke directly with patients during his visit.
RIMS Director Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma briefed Jadhav on the institute’s needs. The minister promised ongoing federal help while evaluating how the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi function in the state. Beyond health, Jadhav shifted focus to upcoming legislative elections.
As a Shiv Sena leader, Jadhav expressed interest in a pre-poll pact with the BJP. He noted the Shiv Sena’s role within the National Democratic Alliance at the federal level. Jadhav said, "The Shiv Sena would like to replicate the alliance arrangement in Manipur ahead of the Assembly polls." If the parties fail to reach a seat-sharing deal, he confirmed the Shiv Sena will run its own candidates.
