Imphal: Hiyanglam MLA Dr. Y. Radheshyam wants the public to drop their protests. Agitations have gripped the region over demands for the National Register of Citizens. He specifically asked demonstrators to cancel a proposed General Strike. The state government is listening. Officials are taking the push for NRC implementation before the Census very seriously.
Radheshyam spoke at a distribution event at Meitei Sanglen in Waikhong, Kakching district. Workers received 137 looms, or Fishakol, during the ceremony. The District Handlooms and Textiles department of Kakching hosted the event. Project Manager S. Heramani and Waikhong Gram Panchayat chairman W. Brojen stood with Radheshyam during his address.
The government wants this too. A BJP committee recently traveled to Delhi to pitch the demand to party brass. Chief Minister Y. Khemchand flew to the capital today. This is his second trip following a call from central leadership. Radheshyam expects a final word soon. He told the crowd, "a concrete decision on the issue is expected following Chief Minister Y. Khemchand's visit to Delhi." The government remains confident that a resolution will arrive once the Chief Minister returns home.
