Four More Manipur MLAs Back Anti-Census Campaign

Imphal: Four Manipur legislators joined the No NRC, No Census movement today. They signed formal declarations backing the campaign led by the Women Wing of the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation. The move pushes the total count of supporting MLAs to 18.

Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh of Khundrakpam, Dr Usham Deben Singh of Wabagai, Keisham Meghachandra Singh of Wangkhem, and Kangujam Ranjit Singh of Sugnu added their signatures to the list. These politicians backed the cause after reviewing a five-point memorandum delivered on October 8. The document demands that the government freeze census operations in Manipur. It insists the state must wait until the National Register of Citizens uses 1951 as the base year.

Sougrakpam Sumati Devi, convenor of the JFD Women Wing, confirmed the latest progress. She stated, "The legislators signed the declarations after receiving the memorandum and expressing their support for the campaign's demand."

Support for the group has built in stages since the September 29 launch. Four backers signed that day. Three joined on October 1, four on October 3, and another three on October 8. The campaign shows no signs of slowing down.
