Imphal: Sarangthem Nirupama took a shovel to the Wabagai Lamkhai-Sugnu route in Manipur. The fourth runner-up of Miss Universe India 2025 returned home from Delhi to fix the crumbling road in the Kakching district. Potholes made the stretch nearly impassable. She saw the danger firsthand.
The repair work spans the area between Wapokpi and Korsantabi. Heavy machinery arrived early. Crews deployed JCB excavators and Tata tippers to fill the gaps. Meira Paibis and local residents from Korsantabi joined the physical labor to patch the surface.
Nirupama acted after a pregnant woman died during an emergency transport. The victim needed to reach the Sugnu Sub-District Hospital but suffered a fatal delay because of the broken road. The woman leaves behind four young children. Nirupama visited the family and decided to intervene.
"Nirupama said the route remains particularly important for emergency medical transportation and is primarily used by ordinary residents." She paid for the materials and equipment using personal savings and donations from family elders. The effort serves as a direct response to local safety concerns that the government ignored.
