Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah authorized the release of Rs 2,117.85 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund on August 14. This money helps states suffering through a brutal southwest monsoon. The move provides immediate cash for relief, rescue, and rehabilitation work.
Assam leads the list with Rs 379.35 crore. Arunachal Pradesh receives Rs 44.55 crore. Gujarat and Maharashtra get Rs 500 crore each as their first instalment for 2026-27. Himachal Pradesh and Odisha collect Rs 193.95 crore and Rs 500 crore respectively as second instalments. Officials relaxed standard paperwork to speed up the process. The Ministry of Home Affairs stated, "considering the urgent need for relief resources," they pushed the money out fast.
The central government monitors the floods closely. It sent National Disaster Response Force teams ahead of time to help. The Ministry of Defence provides necessary logistics. Inter-Ministerial Central Teams are already on the ground in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to tally the damage. Experts visited Assam twice already. Nagaland asked for help, and the government is currently forming a team to head there.
