Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah approved an advance payment of Rs 379.35 crore for Assam on Saturday. This money comes from the State Disaster Response Fund. It supports flood relief, rescue, and rehabilitation efforts. The government loosened documentary requirements to speed up the cash flow.
Assam is not alone. The Ministry of Home Affairs released a total of Rs 2,117.85 crore to seven flood-hit states. This move targets the ongoing southwest monsoon crisis. Arunachal Pradesh received Rs 44.55 crore. Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Odisha also landed funding.
The Centre wants states to act fast. They pre-positioned National Disaster Response Force teams in danger zones. The Ministry of Defence provides extra logistical help. Officials sent two inter-ministerial central teams to inspect damages in Assam. Another team went to Arunachal Pradesh. They are also building a team for Nagaland at the state's request.
Amit Shah remains focused on the disaster. "The Central government is committed to providing all possible assistance to states affected by natural calamities," Shah said. The Centre continues to track the flood situation to ensure aid arrives on time.
