Guwahati: The Directorate of Elementary Education in Assam scrapped the 14-day joining deadline for teachers stuck in Census work. This change applies specifically to staff going through intra-district and inter-district mutual transfers. Teachers not involved in the headcount must still report to their new posts on time.

Suranjana Senapati, the Director of Elementary Education, signed the notification on August 19. It follows the Teacher Transfer Management System orders sent out on August 10, 2026. The department explicitly removed the requirement found in Point No. 1 of the transfer terms for those busy with government surveys.

"The 14-day period mentioned under Point No. 1 of the terms and conditions has been withdrawn for teachers who are engaged or deployed in Census duties," the official notice stated. Every other rule from the original transfer orders stays in effect. Officials confirmed these mandates remain unchanged for all affected educators.
