Guwahati: Flash floods destroyed an 84-meter bridge over the Kumey River in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday. Eight villages in the Kra Daadi district now sit completely isolated from the rest of the state. Officials confirmed the destruction on Tuesday, July 14. The bridge served as the primary link for the region, and its loss has halted the flow of people and vital supplies.

This disaster is part of a wider crisis. Heavy rains and landslides across 26 districts have claimed seven lives and left 29 people injured. Nearly 100,000 residents are affected. Specifically, 97,182 people across 425 villages face displacement, property loss, or damage to crops.

Local officials Yumlam Pulu, a sub-divisional officer, and Rughu Tama, a Zilla Parishad member, inspected the ruins. Pulu reported that the river surge demolished more than 20 homes along the banks. He issued a blunt warning to the public: "He urged residents to strictly follow safety advisories issued by the district administration and avoid venturing near the swollen river."

Tama called on the state government to deliver emergency relief and rebuild the crossing quickly to reopen supply lines. Authorities remain on high alert as the rain continues to hammer the state, threatening further infrastructure collapse.
