Itanagar: The Kumey River surged past the danger mark this week, swallowing the remote border town of Parsi Parlo. Relentless monsoon rains triggered widespread flash flooding across the Kurung Kumey district. Water breached banks early Monday. The inundation hit Parsi-Parlo circle and the Damin subdivision hard.

Roads vanished underwater. Vital transport links snapped. The only road connecting Parsi Parlo to the district headquarters in Koloriang is now blocked. Emergency services and essential supplies cannot get through. Several valley bridges linking Huri, Damin, and Pagam village were swept away by the rising current.

Public infrastructure sustained heavy damage. Floodwaters swamped the Inspection Bungalow, several schools, including St Thomas School, and a local church. Classes are suspended. Private residences across multiple colonies sit submerged. Soil erosion and landslides continue to batter the region.

The State Emergency Operation Centre reports that 97,000 people across 425 villages in all 26 districts of Arunachal Pradesh now face the fallout of this storm. The monsoon death toll currently sits at seven. Across the state, the tally of destruction is massive: 150 roads, 19 bridges, 21 culverts, and 224 electric poles are gone. The storm also damaged 58 government buildings, 221 water supply systems, 156 power lines, 10 hydel projects, and two hospitals.

Problems extend far beyond the border. A massive landslide hit National Highway-13 near Pakro village in Pakke Kessang. Parts of the road to the Sela Tunnel in West Kameng washed away. The Potin-Kimin Road in Papum Pare remains impassable.

Police, paramilitary units, and disaster response teams are now performing damage assessments. Officials issued a warning for residents to stay alert. They said, "The situation is being closely monitored, with concerns that further rain could aggravate flooding and trigger additional landslides in the mountainous district."
