Arunachal Officials Hunt for Residents Missing in Nepal Floods

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh officials are tracking down state residents lost in the wake of Nepal’s massive flash floods. The state government ordered every Deputy Commissioner to compile names and contact information for locals who may have traveled to the region. The order follows an urgent request from the National Disaster Management Authority to identify victims who lost contact with their families.

Disaster officials expect to share this data with relevant agencies to speed up rescue efforts. The government communication states, "The consolidated details will subsequently be shared with the concerned authorities for further action."

A catastrophic collapse of ice, rock, and debris along the Nepal-Tibet border triggered the disaster. The slides swept away homes, roads, bridges, and entire villages. Current reports confirm at least 357 deaths. Hundreds of others, including foreign tourists, remain missing. Local authorities continue to verify the whereabouts of those feared lost in the ruins.

The official death toll from the Himalayan disaster has climbed to 469, with nearly 1,500 people still unaccounted for. Officials confirmed that the missing list includes a large number of Hindu pilgrims who were trekking toward the sacred site of Mount Kailash in Tibet.
