Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu met with a high-level NITI Aayog delegation on Thursday to overhaul disaster management. They focused on flooding, landslides, and climate risks. Generic national policies fail here. Khandu pushed for strategies built around the state’s specific geography and people.

Dr. Joram Aniya led the visiting team. The group included National Disaster Management Authority member Rita Missal. Senior staff from NITI Aayog, the NDMA, and the Central Water Commission also joined the talks.

Khandu emphasized that local conditions dictate success. He told the delegation, "Disaster management in Arunachal Pradesh must be shaped by the realities of our terrain, climate and people, not by one-size-fits-all policies."

The Chief Minister expects the team's field assessment to inform future policy. Recent floods caused significant damage. Officials hope this direct review provides the clarity needed to fix support mechanisms. Khandu thanked the members for their visit to verify the situation on the ground.
