Itanagar: Search teams entered the fourth day of recovery efforts on Sunday, August 16, for three people still missing in the Lohit River. A Delhi-registered vehicle carrying 10 passengers plummeted 300 feet from a cliff into the river on August 13. The wreck occurred at 6 am in the Sarti area along NH-113, situated on the Walong-Hawai road near the India-China border.

One woman died in the crash. Six others, including four men, a woman, and a child, survived with injuries. The District Disaster Management Officer in Anjaw received the first report of the incident at 9:59 am.

A massive response effort involves the Indian Army, Anjaw Police, the State Disaster Response Force, local residents, and volunteers. Authorities requested help from the National Disaster Response Force after concluding the State Disaster Response Force lacked the gear for the mission. An NDRF team arrived Sunday at 8:45 am to begin specialized underwater operations.

Rescue teams spent Saturday combing 12 kilometers of the river downstream before calling off the search at 5 pm. Officials are now focused on areas where the current might have swept the missing people. Local police and medical staff remain stationed at the site to assist in the recovery. As the search continues, authorities stated, "Efforts are continuing to locate the three missing persons and recover the submerged vehicle from the Lohit River."
