Itanagar: A vehicle plunged into the Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday morning. The crash killed one person and left six others injured. The wreck occurred around 9.30 am near the Government Residential School at Sarti in Anjaw district. Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Millo Kojin confirmed the driver lost control of the vehicle before it went into the water.
The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. Police, local residents, and rescue crews pulled seven passengers from the river. One person died at the site. Four survivors sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical help. Authorities remain concerned that strong river currents may have swept away other potential victims.
Search teams continue to comb the river stretch. The district administration brought in State Disaster Response Force personnel from Tezu in the neighboring Lohit district to bolster recovery efforts. Police have registered a case and are hunting for the absconding driver.
Women and Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul ordered local officials to prioritize relief work. She issued a formal statement on the tragedy. "I have strictly directed the local administration, district police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to deploy full resources and extend every possible support on the ground. We are closely monitoring the situation," Pul said. She offered condolences to the victim's family and wished the survivors a fast recovery.
