Itanagar: A cloudburst hit the upper catchment of the Kush River on July 28. The surge arrived at 3 PM. It caught workers at the Kush Hydropower Project by surprise. Water levels spiked in minutes. The site remained sunny, but the river turned deadly.
Sabir Ahmad got stuck in the middle of the river. The worker from Jammu and Kashmir could not reach the bank. He was trapped as the current swelled. Local residents and Arunachal Pradesh Police arrived fast. They launched a rescue mission immediately. The team pulled Ahmad to safety. He walked away with no injuries.
Officials credited the locals for avoiding a disaster. "The swift response of the local community and police helped avert what could have been a fatal accident," reports stated.
