One Dead, Three Missing After Vehicle Plunges Into Arunachal River

Itanagar: A Delhi-registered vehicle plummeted 300 feet off a cliff into the Lohit River, killing one woman and leaving three people missing. The crash occurred at 6 am on August 13 in the Sarti area along the Walong-Hawai road in Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh. The site sits near the India-China border on NH-113.

The car carried 10 people when it veered off the road and submerged in the river. Officials received word of the accident at 9:59 am. Six survivors, including four men, one woman, and one child, were pulled from the wreckage with injuries. District Disaster Management Officer officials noted the severity of the situation. "Search operations are continuing in and around the Lohit River to locate the missing persons and recover the submerged vehicle," according to a statement from authorities.

The District Disaster Management Authority is leading the recovery effort. Local police, the Indian Army, the State Disaster Response Force, and local volunteers are currently combing the water. Because the state rescue teams lack deep-water gear, officials asked the National Disaster Response Force to assist with the search.
