Itanagar: A roadside slab collapse in the Chimpu area of Itanagar killed 27-year-old Tama Baja on Tuesday evening. Baja, a resident of Chandranagar originally from Don village in Kamle district, died when the structure caved in near the New Dumping Zone. Three men sat near a car and a scooter when the ground opened beneath them. They fell into the gap.
Locals pulled 31-year-old Kapwang Arangham from the wreckage before authorities arrived. He was taken to a hospital for care. Police and CRPF personnel arrived at the scene shortly after. They managed to rescue 34-year-old Ajay Jerang and moved him to Ramakrishna Mission Hospital for urgent treatment. One man remained pinned under the debris.
Authorities called in the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force to assist. Teams from the 12th Battalion NDRF and SDRF Itanagar pulled the remaining victim from the rubble. The operation also led to the recovery of a damaged scooter. Police stated: "Necessary legal procedures have been initiated and further verification is being conducted to establish the circumstances that led to the slab collapse."
