Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu pledged 7,834 crore for infrastructure development between 2026 and 2029. He spoke Saturday at Indira Gandhi Park during the 80th Independence Day ceremony. The state needs better roads and rural connectivity. Recent floods and landslides destroyed vast areas. The rebuilding effort focuses on safety and resilience.
Khandu honored those who died in natural disasters across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Nagaland. He praised the local response teams, security forces, and volunteers who managed the crisis. The state government seeks to move past the recent destruction with this massive investment.
Khandu emphasized the importance of federal backing. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for driving the state's progress. The Chief Minister also warned citizens about online misinformation. He told the crowd: “Technology should empower us, not manipulate us.” He expects locals to use their freedom wisely to foster a united, peaceful state.

The state secured an advance release of 44.55 crore through the State Disaster Response Fund to cover immediate relief. An inter-ministerial central team arrived to evaluate the total damage. Khandu wants a disaster management strategy that leans on better coordination between community leaders and public officials to craft long-term mitigation plans.
Of the total 7,834 crore, the government earmarked 2,334 crore for the second phase of the State Road Development Plan to fix transport routes in the capital, townships, and district headquarters. Another 2,000 crore will fund rural road projects to reach isolated habitations. A final 2,000 crore goes to the State Power Development Programme to overhaul the electricity grid.
The administration set up four high-powered committees to handle indigenous safeguards, illegal infiltration, and the Inner Line Permit system. Khandu confirmed the state will consult with local groups on hydropower and tourism projects to avoid conflicts with sacred sites and customary land practices. Officials also noted that women run roughly 46 percent of the state's startups, with 1.5 lakh women participating in 16,000 self-help groups.
The government finished drafting the Viksit Arunachal 2047 vision plan after talks with teachers, traders, farmers, and community leaders. This roadmap sets the tone for the coming decade as the state nears its 50th anniversary.

Beyond physical construction, the administration is launching an aggressive push to shield local heritage. Four high-powered committees now have the mandate to police illegal infiltration, harden the Inner Line Permit system, and tighten protections for Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe safeguards. Khandu pledged that future hydropower and tourism projects will undergo strict vetting to keep sacred sites and customary lands off-limits to development.
Economic data shows women drive the state's growth engines. Over 1.5 lakh women now operate within a network of 16,000 self-help groups, fueling a startup ecosystem where nearly half the businesses are run by women. To sustain this momentum, the government finalized the Viksit Arunachal 2047 roadmap, a blueprint built through wide-ranging consultations with farmers, doctors, engineers, and community organizers to steer the state toward its 50th anniversary.
