Itanagar: A two-member delegation met Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu in Pasighat on August 10. The group, representing the East Siang Downstream District Affected People’s Forum, demanded action. They submitted a memorandum outlining deep fears regarding the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project.
Forum president Oni Tamuk and general secretary Jobomchang Mengu led the talk. They told the Chief Minister that downstream communities face significant risks from the storage project. Khandu promised to review the document with relevant authorities.
He agreed to host a mass meeting. This session will gather the forum leaders and village representatives from the affected downstream zones. The state wants to hear the people. This consultation aims to place community views directly before government officials.
The forum calls this a positive shift. They demand transparency and active participation throughout the planning process. The group stated, "The concerns of downstream residents should be addressed through meaningful consultation, transparency and direct participation of affected communities."
The organization insists on peaceful and democratic methods. They expect the government to weigh these impacts before pushing ahead with the project. The fight for downstream interests remains their top priority.
